Heat Alerts - impact on collections and health 12/08/25

Due to the anticipated hot weather and our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our collection crews, all waste and recycling collections will commence earlier, from 6:00am on Tuesday 12 August. Please can all residents with scheduled collections leave their bins out the night before or by no later than 6am. We will not be able to return for any bins which are not presented for collection. Upgraded AMBER Heat-Health Alert for the South East including Buckinghamshire
The Yellow heat health alert starts at Midday today, continues through the night, and then is upgraded to an amber heat health alert from 9AM on 12/08/2025 until 6PM on 13/08/2025 across the South East including Buckinghamshire. The amber alert has a matrix score of 12.
Significant impacts are likely across health and social care services due to the high temperatures, including:
- a rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions. There may also be impacts on younger age groups
- likely increased demand on all health and social care services
- internal temperatures in care settings (hospitals and care homes) may exceed the recommended threshold for clinical risk assessment
- the heat affecting the ability of the workforce to deliver services
- indoor environments overheating increasing the risk to vulnerable people living independently in community and care settings
- issues managing medicines
- staffing issues due to external factors (for example, affecting transport)
- increased demand for power exceeding capacity
- other sectors starting to observe impacts (for example, travel delays)
